The Mini Shark is an innovative whitewater packraft with a functional, kayak-like design. Also available in an XL size.
Application and features
With its spraydeck concept and basic shape based on a whitewater kayak, the Mini Shark is exceptionally suited to whitewater. However, thanks to its centered seating position and compact hull, the Mini Shark also cuts a fine figure in calm water, whether on solo trips or on group trips with rigid boats.
The excellent sailing characteristics and good buoyancy also offer the possibility of whitewater excursions.
Shape and construction
The Mini Shark has a streamlined hull and a slightly upward curved bow, which makes it easier to navigate waves and rollers and also improves the packraft's maneuverability in whitewater. The tube is narrower than comparable models, making it easier to re-enter and self-rescue after a capsize. Furthermore, the seat's low center of gravity supports balance in whitewater and more than offsets the slightly negative effects of narrow tubes on stability.
The centrally positioned seat with symmetrical bow and stern is modeled after a classic kayak and its handling characteristics. The Mini Shark is part of the range MRS Streamline SL .
Mudflaps
The sprayhood at the stern can be opened with a zipper to the height of the hatch. This allows for convenient storage of luggage in the rear. The coaming and sprayhood are removable.
Once closed, the sprayhood is as waterproof as traditional whitewater decks. As a paddler, you're well protected from the most adverse conditions, including heavy rain, cold, crashing waves, and splashes.
Special features and equipment
- The Mini-Shark features a comfortable backrest that provides lumbar support even during long paddles. The backrest is variably adjustable via several fixed points.
- The Packraft features an integrated bracket (soft mount) for attaching a removable fin/skeg, which provides greater directional stability and speed. The fin is included.
- The Mini Shark is equipped with 5P thigh straps and all the necessary accessories. If you enjoy sporty driving or plan to use it in whitewater, you're well equipped.
Note
To achieve good performance on the water, it's particularly important to ensure consistent air pressure in the tubes (especially in cold water). The Mini Shark's hull should therefore be inflated to approximately 3 psi (about 0.2 bar). The higher air pressure compared to other packrafts is absolutely necessary due to the narrow tube design. This gives the hull sufficient torsional rigidity in whitewater and significantly improves control of the boat. We recommend using a manual pump .
Material and repair
The excellent adhesion of the coating and the exceptional tear resistance of the MRS Mini Shark fabric make the boat extremely durable. The smooth, glossy surface is highly scratch-resistant. The adhesion between the tubes is very reliable and even exceeds the strength of the material. It is resistant to UV rays and aging, as well as elastic in the cold.
